Micklehurst Cricket & Social Club was formed in 1890 by employees of the George Lawton and Sons Woollen Manufacturers in Micklehurst. 135 years later with its manicured pitch and breath-taking scenery, the club, now run by community volunteers, has a new and exciting renovation project underway.
The old seating area, adjacent to the club house, was unsafe and in desperate need of attention to make it a more sociable place for club members, visitors and the whole community to enjoy a drink and watch the cricket.
The area has been extended and landscaped to accommodate 6- and 8-seater picnic tables with parasols and wooden planters and now offers full inclusive access to create a safe and welcoming part of the ground for all to enjoy.

Micklehurst Cricket Club survives on the hard work and dedication of its volunteers and the support given by the local community, so when Elizabeth Way & Company Funeral Directors in Mossley were able to offer the club £1000.00 towards their project through the Community Assistance Programme, it was smiles all round. The much-needed cash will be put towards finishing the project just in time for summer.
